About this item
Home labs and small studios chasing core count should look at this 4U server with dual Xeon 2696 v4 processors. It offers 44 cores and 88 threads, 256GB of RAM, and HDMI and DisplayPort outputs in a short 39cm chassis. It sells for $1,257.84, and drives aren't included.
Is a dual Xeon 2696 v4 server good for virtualization?
The thread count and 256GB of memory suit virtual machines, containers, render queues and big compile jobs. Power draw and fan noise are worth asking about if it will live near your desk.
- No SSD: budget for boot and data drives, and ask how many bays it has.
- Condition: it's listed as "new: other, see description", so read that note carefully.
- Rack fit: check whether rails are included and that 39cm suits your rack.
- Power supply: ask for the wattage.
