About this item
The appeal of the HP Z840 workstation with two Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors is dual-socket power at a budget price. This certified refurbished system lists 32GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD, which makes it a candidate for virtual machines, render queues and long multithreaded jobs.
What should you upgrade first on an HP Z840 dual Xeon workstation?
Upgrade the storage first. A 1TB hard drive has plenty of room but is slow to start up and open projects. Adding an SSD for the operating system makes the biggest day-to-day difference.
- Graphics: the title doesn't mention a GPU, so check which card, if any, is installed.
- Operating system: none is listed, so confirm whether Windows is included.
- Memory: 32GB handles several VMs. Check the slot details if you plan to expand.
