About this item
The Dell OptiPlex 980 MT desktop in this listing runs a Core i5-650 with 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and Windows XP Pro. It's certified refurbished at $289.99. The mini-tower (MT) case has more room inside than the compact OptiPlex designs.
Who should buy a Windows XP OptiPlex 980 desktop?
Mostly people who actually need XP: to run legacy software, control older lab or workshop equipment, or build retro setups. XP no longer gets security updates, so it's a poor choice for everyday web browsing or email.
- Purpose first: make sure your program or device really requires XP.
- Memory: 4GB is modest, so check the listing for free RAM slots.
- Storage: a 500GB HDD is slower than an SSD, so look for notes on drive health.
- Extras: see whether a keyboard, mouse or power cord is included.
