About this item
Shoulder strain from a cramped standard keyboard is a common reason people try a Silakka54 split mechanical keyboard. The 54 keys are split into two halves, so each hand can sit at shoulder width. Hot-swap sockets let you change switches without soldering. It's listed new at $147.75.
Is a 54-key split keyboard practical for gaming and work?
Yes, once you get used to layers. QMK and VIAL let you remap keys and set layers, so numbers, symbols and game binds can go wherever you want.
- Check the listing to see whether switches and keycaps are included or the board is barebones.
- Confirm how the two halves connect and which cables come in the box.
- Plan a week or two to adjust to the smaller layout.
- Use the VIAL app to remap keys without flashing firmware.
