What does open box mean for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D?
Usually the box has been opened, but the history varies. Read the description to see whether the chip was installed, tested or returned.
- Pins and contacts: zoom in on photos of the underside, and ask for more photos if they're unclear.
- Contents: check whether the original packaging is included, and don't assume a cooler is.
- Motherboard: you'll need an AM5 board. Check its CPU support list and BIOS version.
- Cooling: budget for a strong cooler and thermal paste for a high-end gaming chip.
