What should I check on an open-box Ryzen 7 9850X3D AM5 processor?
On AM5 the pins are in the motherboard socket, so focus on the chip's condition and what's included.
- Zoom in on the photos of the contact pads and heat spreader for scratches or leftover thermal paste.
- Ask whether the retail box is part of the sale. The title doesn't say.
- Your board must be AM5 and may need a BIOS update for newer chips. Check your board maker's CPU support list.
- Ask the seller whether the chip was tested and how.
