About this item
Looking for an inexpensive HP 15.6-inch laptop for email, web browsing and homework? This HP 15-dw1081wm in red has an Intel Pentium Gold processor, 4GB of memory, a 500GB hard drive and Windows 10. The open-box listing asks $185.
Is a 4GB Pentium Gold laptop enough for everyday use?
It can handle light tasks one or two at a time, but expect slowdowns with many tabs open. A spinning hard drive also boots more slowly than an SSD.
- Windows 10 no longer gets free security updates from Microsoft, so check whether an upgrade is possible.
- Confirm that the charger is included.
- Ask about battery condition and how much the laptop has been used.
- Check the listing or ask the seller whether the RAM can be expanded.
Best as a backup machine, a kid's first laptop or a computer for simple office chores.
