About this item
For a home NAS or storage server, the LSI 9305-24i HBA connects a large pool of drives through a PCIe x8 slot at 12Gbps SAS-3 speeds. This open-box card is listed as Broadcom and set to IT mode, which passes disks straight through to ZFS, TrueNAS or Unraid instead of hiding them behind hardware RAID.
Why does IT mode on the LSI 9305-24i matter for TrueNAS and Unraid?
ZFS needs direct access to each drive for health data and error handling, and an HBA in IT mode gives it that without extra setup.
- Find the firmware version in the listing or ask the seller.
- Confirm whether breakout cables are included and whether the bracket is full-height or low-profile.
- Plan your airflow, since HBA cards tend to run warm.
- Make sure your motherboard has a free slot that runs at x8.
